Good News For Shropshire
Newport based Classic Furniture Group have secured an exclusive contract to supply the furniture to the two premier hotels at the Olympic site in London.
The hotels, IHG Staybridge & Holiday Inn are due for completion in March and are both located at the Westfield Stratford shopping centre overlooking the Olympic stadium.
This is the biggest single contract secured in the Company's 40 year history and all the furniture will be manufactured & upholstered in Shropshire, at the Company's factories in Newport and Whitchurch. Certainly this is good news for British manufacturing and a small number of additional new jobs will be created with the work helping secure the jobs of the 160 people employed by the Company.
Classic have worked very hard since the 2006 Management Buyout to change the culture from importing to in-house manufacturing as we believe this is the current way forward in the Hospitality & Leisure sector. In the depth of the 2008 Recession the Group only employed 34 people but the combination of successful Marketing & Selling combined with the switch to in-house manufacturing has seen a near five-fold increase in numbers employed in the last 2-3 years.
It's been very tough in challenging times and despite setbacks along the way the Management Team have successfully grown the Business organically, through diversification and through acquisition.
As a humble, but proud Shropshire contract furniture company, Classic would like to toast this success by thanking the staff and those local & national suppliers, who have supported us during this challenging period.
As a major supplier to such household names like Costa & Whitbread amongst many others, Classic are determined to make things happen in 2012.
